Chidera Ejuke Joins Hertha BSC from CSKA Moscow
Nir Inbar Sports Law & Business supported Nigerian international winger Chidera Ejuke in connection with his move from CSKA Moscow to Hertha BSC.
The move took place during an exceptional regulatory period in international football. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the resulting impact on football in Ukraine and Russia, FIFA adopted temporary measures under Annexe 7 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.
Those measures allowed certain foreign players and coaches contracted to clubs affiliated to the Ukrainian Association of Football or the Football Union of Russia to suspend their employment contracts in specific circumstances.
Ejuke exercised his right to suspend his employment contract with CSKA Moscow for the 2022/23 season and joined Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga.
The firm assisted in the legal and contractual aspects connected to the move, including the review and implementation of the relevant FIFA regulatory framework and the documentation required for the player’s registration and transfer process.
The matter reflects the importance of combining football contract expertise with a clear understanding of FIFA regulations, international transfers, employment suspension mechanisms and the practical realities created by exceptional geopolitical circumstances.
We congratulate Chidera and wish him continued success in his international career.
